First, let's all agree that was a fantastic title. Also, full disclosure, that's not an endorsement of anything just a fun title.
Second, let's get another apology out of the way. I'm a terrible blogger with limited time. I'm sorry and I promise i'll start posting more (third time's a charm?).
Third, onto the blog. I passed my comprehensive exams for my PhD program and am now moving into thesis realm (oh boy!). More importantly, I also recently published the biggest research letter of my young career in JAMA. This piece was somewhat controversial and i've watched many people in forums passionately debate its merit (and sometimes skip debate altogether and head straight to name calling). The experience of watching our small piece being discussed (skewered?) in the dredges of the internet has inspired me to return to the blog as an outlet to discuss our work and updates in other research and hearing care.
A really important step in the direction of over-the-counter hearing aids occurred last week. The FDA bill which included the over-the-counter hearing aid legislation passed the Senate. The bill had already passed the House and now moves to the President's desk for signing. For me (and many others), this means a lot of things we've been talking about as theory now become potential reality. A lot of changes will come in hearing care and it will be a really exciting time. Over the next few blog posts i'm going to mix in my thoughts on those changes in hearing care as well as cover some of our recent papers in depth.
Have a great day!
